Scouting Field Trips

The Wornall/Majors House Museums are pleased to offer field trips for scouting troops. A visit to either the John Wornall House or the Alexander Majors House is the perfect way to help scouts earn badges that involve American heritage or civics, Kansas City and Missouri history, Civil War history and the Border Wars, westward expansion, women’s history, slavery, and more. Knowledgeable staff, docents, and educators help students get a firsthand look at life in the 1850s and 1860s.

You may build your field trip to include a one-hour tour of either House and add activities that meet your specific needs. Activity choices include: butter making, corn husk dolls, scavenger hunt, gardening & historic plant use, blacksmithing demonstration (ages 7 or older), or visit from a soldier.

COVID-19 Update: We are now scheduling Scout trips on a case-by-case basis. We are only able to schedule small-group field trips at this time. Some activities (particularly those that involve shared surfaces) may not be available. We will work with you to find alternate activities.

Costs
$5.00 per participant, including parents/chaperones
$1.00 per activity for each participant, not including parents/chaperones
Payment due the day of your field trip.

To Schedule
Advance reservations are required and may be made by calling 816-444-1858 or email Sarah at programs@wornallmajors.org. When planning a visit to the Museums, please make reservations as early as possible so we may accommodate you. We are also happy to make recommendations on how best to fill your specific badge needs with our activities and programs.

The Wornall House and the Majors House are also great places to do your Eagle Scout project or Girl Scout Gold Award. Please call us about potential projects.
