Drink Your History: A Historical Tasting Series

Alcohol and human history have long been entwined. Join us for a four-part series where we explore the American history of spirits, while also teaching you how to discern differences and taste some of America (and the world’s) most historic beverages. Tickets include a brief presentation, plus 3-4 tasting cups or mixed drinks of the featured liquor. Tickets are $30/event, or $100 for the entire series. March 31 – WORLD OF WHISKEY

From bourbon to rye whiskey, the varietals of whiskey are expansive. Learn the differences between whiskey varieties while learning how to best taste and utilize these varieties. We’ll also explore the history of whiskey in the United States, and how certain varietals gained popularity.

June 30 – GIN AND TONICS

Originated as a medicinal liquor, gin has a long and storied history. It is particularly prominent in American history during Prohibition, with the age of bathtub gin and speakeasies. We’ll sample several gins while exploring this fascinating history.

September 29 – IN-CIDER INFORMATION

Cider is an ancient beverage, and one that was crucially important to Americans in the New World. While interest in cider waned in the twentieth century, it’s popularity has been revived in recent years. Explore both the history of cider as well as local varieties.

December 15 – VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS LIBATIONS

From wassail to English milk punch, the Victorians loved a good holiday cocktail. Though they’ve fallen out of popularity, these libations are still worth considering in 2023. We’ll explore some of the more unusual, unique, and delicious cocktails the Victorians imbibed in during the Christmas season, many which you’ll also get to try!

Join us on the lawn of the beautiful John Wornall House on Saturday, May 20 for craft beer, food, and local jazz in a fun and inviting atmosphere. Stroll the historic herb and vegetable garden and native plant beds with a drink in hand while the sounds of jazz welcome you in.
