For Immediate Release
May 1, 2020

In accordance with the City of Kansas City, Mo.’s 10/10/10 COVID-19 reopening plan, the John Wornall House will reopen on Wednesday, May 20 and the Alexander Majors House on Thursday, May 21. The safety of our staff, guests, and volunteers is of the utmost importance, so we will be taking several precautions:

  •  Both the Wornall and Majors House will offer self-guided tours only. Guided tours will resume at a future date to be determined by monitoring health and safety information throughout the remainder of the year.
  • Museum capacity will be limited to 10 visitors at a time. Guests arriving separately will be asked to exercise a 6-foot social distancing space from other guests in the museum. Masks are strongly encouraged.
  • Visitors staying for more than 10 minutes will be asked to provide their name and contact information.
  • All touchable display items have been removed from tours.
  • Handwashing and hand sanitizing areas will be clearly marked in the Museums.
  • Staff will observe enhanced sanitization procedures, particularly for common surfaces like doorknobs and railings.
  • Private tours and field trips will not be scheduled at this time. Virtual tours and Zoom meetings with staff or historic experts can be scheduled upon request.

The Museums will continue to follow the advice of leading health organizations, particularly the Centers for Disease Control and the City of Kansas City, Mo.

Thank you for helping us keep the Museums safe and healthy!
